This article will give you a background on Tokyo Marui, why it is so popular and some of the replica guns under its line.
Ready? Let’s get started.
The Basics of Tokyo Marui
Tokyo Marui Co. Ltd. is the name of the airsoft manufacturer based in Tokyo, Japan. Founded in 1965, it has made a name for itself in airsoft as the most popular manufacturer of airsoft guns all over the world.
Its products are mainly sold in Japan. However, due to its popularity, it has third-party retailers all over the world. Korea, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong are some of the places where there are numerous third-party retailers of their products.
Why is Tokyo Marui so Popular?
Every Tokyo Marui fan boy or girl can give you their idea about what makes the company so popular. But if there is one indisputable reason for its popularity, it would be the innovation it brought into the world of airsoft.
Tokyo Marui is the first company that produced the so-called automatic electric guns or AEGs. Before that, airsoft guns employed either the classic spring or the gas-powered mechanisms.
With Tokyo Marui’s innovation, they created airsoft guns and airsoft pistols that were as reliable as the springers, needed less maintenance than compressed air types yet provided an automatic fire option.
The first AEG they produced is the FAMAS F1. From that point, their AEG concept caught on, creating many imitators. Today, many airsoft gun manufacturers still use the same mechanism pioneered by Tokyo Marui for their products.
More About AEGs and Their Automatic Electric Pistols (AEPs)
The bodies of their AEGs are usually made of ABS plastic, with some of the internal components made of metal. However, they are already using metal bodies for their newer line of airsoft guns such the AK-47M.
Rechargeable batteries power their AEGs. The same goes with their AEPs that use 7.2V batteries.
The standard muzzle velocity of Tokyo Marui’s AEGs is under 1 joule due to the limit set by Japanese law. You may, however, buy aftermarket parts and modify your gun to increase its power. The pellets used by these AEGs are the standard 0.2 g BBs.
Other Tokyo Marui Products
Aside from their popular line of AEGs and AEPs, Tokyo Marui has other airsoft gun products. For one there’s the so-called AEG Boys Series. This series feature scaled down models of popular guns such as the MP5 and the M4A carbine for use by children 10 years old and above.
Unlike the 1:1 scale guns, these AEGs only use 6 AA batteries and feature a lower muzzle velocity.
Tokyo Marui also has gas blowback pistols. These pistols are gas-powered and have a blowback feature which aims to replicate the recoil when firing a real handgun. These guns use HCF134A refrigerant gas. Some use the so-called green gas, although using this could damage the gun.
